    Given the May 15, 1933 date inscribed on the photo, that would make this a photo of USS Macon (ZRS-5), since her sister-ship, USS Akron (ZRS-4) crashed a month earlier on April 4, 1933.

    Luftschiff LZ 126, better known as the US Navy airship USS Los Angeles (ZR-3). The dirigible was built by Luftschiffbau Zeppelin, in Friedrichshafen, Germany, as part of war reparations to the United States after the Great War. The date on the glass plate of "9/22/24," and lack of markings would place the airship in Germany, prior to her non-stop delivery flight from Friedrichshafen to Naval Air Station Lakehurst, New Jersey, October 12-15, 1924.
