This is my fav image from the entire State Records photostream. There is something great about this image. It really puts you back in the time of the photo.

Love the prices though I guess we have to ask also what were wages at the same time.

This placemat would be from the early 1970s. My father, Richard Hook was doing contractor work in the area. Norm Morrow contributed a photo of an invoice from my father in 1972 (see Norm and Carol Morrow's album). For electrical and plumbing work my father charged $5.00/hour. Wages for similar work today is 10x that or more.

Hi Jan: You are correct. The building is still there (or maybe just the frame) and is used as a residence. It has been sold at least twice since the McDermott's owned it.

I do remember McDermotts. I know it's a residence now. Also the houses on #7 east of this building used to be owned by MNR until they were declared surplus and sold. So "the corner is different but the same".

That looks like the ones in the alley of the Kurhaus in Scheveningen.

We used this photo as a source of inspiration for our National Vending Machine (Nationale Automatiek). Great to see it here and to see the resemblance:
