this could also be taken when he captained the Aquitania on her maiden voyage On 30 May 1914. As Commodore for Cunard, he also captained Mauretania and Lusitania on their maiden voyages. The air intakes behind him could be the Aquitania, or possibly Lusitania after her original caps had been torn off by storms and replaced with this more conventional style later in her career. (Or Mauretania at any time) However their apparent closeness most resembles the pair aside Aquitania's #1 funnel. see the photo:
