I think the date is May - the end of the 'y' has overrun the active area of the negative and so not revealed. The player piano appears to be the same as in a previous picture (of Capt Milton?) but with different pctures on it.

Well done Mr Hall ! Some time in 1931, judging from the state of the Harbour Bridge ... The HELEN B STERLING seems to be moored off Bradleys Head - you can see the lighthouse right of frame. {Grrr @ Flickr for messing up the notes!]
