If she is wearing a dress, I see no visible means of how it would hang if she stood up. Judging by the fringe at the bottom right I expect she may be just draped in a sheet.

Interesting photo because the dress is bang on 1869 - ten years earlier. Its certainly not 1879.

State Library of New South Wales said:
The photo is dated from the photographer, Nicholas White of Bendigo, who created this photograph by cutting and pasting Tremaye's face onto both faces of another couple's portrait. The dress may be a little out of date because an older photograph was used but the scandal had not broken until 1879 and the point of the photomontage was to capitalise on the news. (The woman's hairstyle would be ca. 1872-1876, possibly later than the dress which was kept for much longer then). Hence the 1879 date!
