We have some very interesting photographs for your delectation this week beginning with this lovely view of a Public Park possibly in the Dublin area. There's a picture of Sandymount Green from 1981 here, which looks fairly similar to me. (Particularly the roof of the building to the left of the tree in the middle.)

Yes, I think this is Sandymount - just a stones throw from one of our toughest IDs ever! The fountain in the background is marked on the GeoHive OSI 25" map

My vote is for Sandymount too, see Murphy's Medicines on streetview (not linking well for me), and the tram catenary as seen on Niall McAuley's map. *Grrrr @ flickr re notes*

If you look at the megazoomable version in the archive, you can zoom in and read the street sign on the building with the shop awnings on it: SANDYMOUNT GREEN The gentleman in the foreground is a) wearing spats and b) playing an invisible drum.

"The Merrion Promenade Pier and Baths Co built Sandymount swimming baths in 1883. The baths measured approximately 40 by 40 metres, with a 75-metre pier added in 1884. The pier featured a bandstand halfway along it and summer concerts were regularly held there for many years. By 1920, the pier had deteriorated so much that it had to be demolished. The concrete baths section, which resembles a small harbour, remains." per Wiki The Martello was used as a tram office at this time.

This Mary made a grreat booboo last evening when uploading some shots to the NLI stream and failed to make them private so as to release one each day:-( The problem was that we had a number of "Tram" shots together and needed to break up the flow with other interests. Sincere apologies to all those who like a daily chase.

Ryan, Victualler, #92 is now Michael Byrne and Son, Butcher. Ryan's shop was still there in 1971, according to Thom's!
