Military Barracks at 11.07 a.m., but where? Garda Headquarters in the Phoenix Park, that's where!

The open windows suggest a warm day, even a scorcher. Not the sort of day to be standing sentry in a heavy uniform buttoned to the throat.
  • Martin Devlin said:
The uniforms look to dark to be army I'd be inclined to think that they are R.I.C. police officers and the building in the background is what we now know as Garda HQ in the pheonix park check out this link archiseek.com/2010/1842-garda-headquarters-phoenix-park-d... The exterior design of the building is a match and cheching on Google the gate posts appear to be the same also

Something says east not west to me, but that doesn't narrow it down much!

Could it be Castletownbere, the hill behind looks the same

Moira our comments crossed - I was going on the light and even the direction of the flag - it could of course be an east facing shoreline on the west coast, which would match with your suggested location

I've just added a note on the image which confirms this as Castletownbere - there's a very distinctive building with arched windows I assume on a staircase as they are not in line with the windows on each floor of the building

Telegraph Office, but where? Adrigole, that's where!

There's a Garda station in Co. Cork with a background just like that one but I am not sure of the name. I think it might be Aghadoe. It is probably closed now after all the cuts.

From the shadows on the window reveals it looks like the building is facing south with a strong westerly breeze blowing the smoke from the chimney.
