    This could be any of 3 gates - the Grafton St, Merrion Row and Leeson St. corners. The only surviving one is at Leeson St. (Grafton St. now has Fusilier's Arch, and Merrion Row was altered to stick in the Robert Emmet statue.) Streetview.

    The notes on the photo in the NLI mention the following: "Boat decorated with garlands etc. as part of an annual fund-raising flag day held by the Royal National Lifeboat Institution in Dublin and across the U.K."

    Martin Black, author of our publication, ‘G.L. Watson – the Art and Science of Yacht Design’, came up with the following information on this Tramore lifeboat, named “Henley”, after her donor, Mrs G. Henley of Highbury. She was designed by G.L. Watson, Glasgow, Scotland (design no. 233) in 1892, and built by Chambers & Colby of Lowestoft, Suffolk, England, as a sailing and pulling, non-self-righting lifeboat. She weighed 3 tons 5 cwt (very light for a lifeboat) and was specifically designed to be very lightweight to allow launching from the soft beach at Tramore. “Henley” was 32 ft long with a beam of 8 ft and carried 10 rowers. “Henley” was based at Tramore from 1893 to 1918 and saved 19 lives.
