    HMS Edgar was a first class cruiser of the Royal Navy, and lead ship of the Edgar class. She was built at Devonport and launched on 24 November 1890. She served in the First World War in the Gallipoli Campaign, along with her sisters Endymion, Grafton and Theseus. Edgar was damaged in an attack by the Austro-Hungarian submarine SM U-29 on 4 April 1918 near position 35°06′N 14°24′E.[1] Edgar was sold on 9 May 1921.     The Crystal Palace was moved to Sydenham before it burned down. My mother who lived in Norwood could remember it burning down, she was 11 at the time. She saw the reflection of the flames in the windows of her home and thought that was on fire, but the flames were behind her on Sydenham Hill. you can still see the outline of the building here ... maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=Sydenham+Hill,...
