V for Victory? Over what? If it was 1943, the US was still in the midst of World War II in Europe and the Pacific.

"V for Victory" was a rallying cry as much as anything throughout the war. It didn't signify a victory, it signified the fight for victory. Churchill was always flashing the "V" in photographs.
