Inaugural stand (LOC)

  • -Jarrett- said:
Date says 3/21/13, which would've been in preparation for Woodrow Wilson's inauguration.
  • shanan said:
when did they change the inaugurations to January?
  • -Jarrett- said:
When the 20th Amendment was ratified in, like, '33.
  • Noël Zia Lee said:
But Wilson was inaugurated on March 4, 1913. So either the date is wrong, or this is for some other event (unlikely), or they are tearing down the viewing stands instead of building them. I'll hazard a guess that it was taken on 3/2/13 instead of 3/21/13. We're looking at the east front of the capitol, the south (House) end.
  • The Library of Congress said:
Shmoovio (Jarrett) and Noel Zia Lee: Thanks for your comments about the date and subject of this image. It does pertain to the Wilson inauguration which took place on March 4, 1913. There are other images in the Bain collection of the Wilson inaugural stands: www.flickr.com/photos/library_of_congress/2744282092/ www.flickr.com/photos/library_of_congress/2744281666/ (3/21/13 is also written on this one) I agree with Noel Zia Lee, that the date was probably written incorrectly on these negatives, and that it probably should be 3/2/13. We will update the source data and reload the description.
