Could there be a missing character in "E.J. Berwi ND"? If not, what does the "ND" stand for?

Not a missing letter, but an extra space. Edward Julius Berwind, a famous coal baron. ;-)

Perfect - thank you! I'll replace my tag.

For more pictures of the Edgar house (bottom right), see Commodore William Edgar House, 29 Old Beach Road in HABS hdl.loc.gov/loc.pnp/hhh.ri0046 The HABS information for Elms, middle left, is at hdl.loc.gov/loc.pnp/hhh.ri0049 Belmead, middle right, appears to have been divided up. You could currently buy a "townhouse" in it. See www.christiesgreatestates.com/properties/view_70156/

Hi, I'm an admin for a group called Rhode Island Architecture, and we'd love to have this added to the group!

Other Bain/LOC photos of the New York Yacht Club landing at Newport, R. I.:

"Newport will see a lot of the New York Yacht Club on its annual cruise, which will sail into Newport Harbor Aug. 9, on Friday, and remain until the following Monday morning. This means a round of social activity ashore and afloat." -----From a New York Times story (June 30, 1912) on the upcoming summer social season at the resort town of Newport, R. I.

As I can observe, boat technology has advanced very much. But social classes remain through times.

I was there, you can see me...gal in the hat, third from the left. Them were good times.

Looking at the dress code for this boating outing, I would need say it is a far cry from the bikini (some times topless) and speedo clad men that are observed at the modern day cove parties.

G@zu, in fact boat tech has remained largely similar too. . .

Looks the same!
