Did "Dover AAFB" go by another name during the war? I don't remember hearing it before. Fantastic photo anyway, very interesting to look at. It has literally been dragged in to a ditch and left.

Dover has had many names, all including the name "Dover" somewhere it the title (according to Wiki): 17 Dec 41: Municipal Airport, Dover Airdrome 8 Apr 43: Dover Army Air Base (AAB) 6 Jun 43: Dover Subbase 2 Feb 44: Dover Army Airfield (AAF) 18 Sep 47:Dover Air Force Base (AFB) So, the hieroglyphics on the photo label this as a P-47G-10-CU Thunderbolt (a.k.a. "TP-47Gs" when some were converted to two-place trainers) after a training sortie over the east coast on 8-9-44 at "DAAF" (P-47Gs never made it to combat zones due to questionable construction practices at Curtiss.) Remarkably, there are at least two P-47G "Razorbacks" still flying: P-47G-10-CU 42-25068 (G-CDVX) "Snafu" of The Fighter Collection at Duxford and P-47G-15-CU 42-25254 (N3395G) "Spirit of Atlantic City, NJ" of the Planes of Fame at Chino, CA. Both are bucket list "must see's"! (No record of this one's fate...)

The aircraft was restored by Ray Stutsman in the 1980s and flew as NX47DG. Following a trip to the UK for a few years, it has since returned to the U.S. under the ownership of Rudy Frasca, registered NX47FG.
