  Why isn't she whistling? The story goes that my grandparents insisted that their strawberry pickers on the farm at Bloomfield Street, Cleveland (now under shops) whistle continuously while working. You can't eat and whistle at the same time.

  The plants look too young to be bearing fruit, and there is no straw down to keep the berries free of dirt. With that and her unlikely attire, it looks like a faked picture.

  It's definitely a posed shot--that's not a very practical position or dress for picking strawberries!
