Ive had many a great night in there. Superb shot.

The pictures show it looking very pristine. What they cant convey is the smell of hot bodies and warm beer, rum and blackcurrant,the clagginess of the carpet and the noise of the bands. What a great time we had - sadly missed - or maybe it's just my youth I miss ;-)

I can just recall that there were stories near where i lived during the war, South of Gorham, about German spies signaling something-or-other to their associates in the Atlantic from the peak of Temple Mountain. This highly implausible tale reflects the extent to which people will make their own lives as significant as possible in times of stress and anxiety. There was no information that might have come out of the Monadnock Region that could have been of the slightest interest to our enemies, and it's extremely doubtful that light signals from Temple (elevation 2085 ft.) would be visible on the coast (roughly 65 mi. away), even on the region's rare clear nights.

The story was about lights from a Monadnock area mountain which could be seen at sea during WWI. The popular explanation was German spies signalling U-boats, but the reality was some sort of experiment in photonics.
