  @Jim Rees, I never would have even thought about that, but that is a very real concern! Isn't the big pot o' molten lead just completely open on the top!?

  It's been a few years but I remember tossing slugs into the lead pot and I don't remember there being a cover. But maybe they added one for railroad use.

  The pot has a cover. The wire-ring handle that is used to open it is visible in the large size image. It is just beyond the left vice handle near the cams.
