This is interesting, because at the moment we must assume that Bryan is standing at the podium in the centre background stage. Yet, many people closer tot he camera are looking to the right rear of the camera. Possibly more than one speaker's podium at this event.

Bain's photo bears the date April 20, 1912. The venue is the "cottage" in New York City's Union Square. A story in The New York Times on the following day reported that Bryan had addressed a large crowd of Columbia University students at Horace Mann Auditorium.
