  The Mary Washington sank the afternoon of October 5, 1896, springing a leak at its dock at the foot of 11th Street and going under on the Virginia side of the river. See "Sank at Anchor in River" in that day's "Evening Star".

  I remember walking from the Capitol, to the Lincoln Memorial, across this bridge, to Arlington Cemetery. That was one loooong walk. That was one LOOOONG bridge. It think it took us 20 minutes just to cross the bridge on foot. Very nice shot, though.
