Did he survive?

Jazz Guy Interesting case. He never left Australia. He enlisted with his mother's consent, but when she came down with pleurisy she requested his discharge as he was her sole support. This was denied and he was later court-martialled for desertion. recordsearch.naa.gov.au/scripts/Imagine.asp?B=1811453

Aww what a sad, cruel story - he's a 'baby' and far too young to leave his mother, especially when she's so ill - armies are cruel!! If this was my boy and they put him in jail for dissertion I'd break him out . . . if I was ill like his mother was, and they did that, I'd probably have died of a broken heart.
