One of our friends at the Archives Outside blog has some local knowledge of this area. Apparently "the milk bar advertising Peter’s Ice Cream on the corner of Church and Macquarie Streets was run, for a year or so, by John Goffage later known as actor ‘Chips’ Rafferty during the 1930s." adbonline.anu.edu.au/biogs/A140322b.htm

That's Murray Brothers store on the left. Diagonally opposite, out of sight on the right of the photographer, was "Murrays Limited". Part of that building is visible in the previous shot, of Parramatta Town Hall.

That is actually looking south along Church St. PJ's Irish pub is on the left. On the right hand corner is now Heartland Holden. The Great Western Highway runs up the hill to the right.

Do you know the year that this photo was taken? Many of my ancestors lived and worked in the Parramatta/Granville/Clyde area through the Victorian era.

Looking south from near Lennox Bridge. Note the steam tram tracks, Murrays store sign, and the tower, which i think was on thenorth-eastern corner of Church & George.
