    Thank you so much for sharing this photo. RAF 135 Squadron's motto was: "Pennas ubique monstramus" ("We show our wings everywhere"). 135 Squadron was disbanded at Cuttack on 26th June 1945. Reference: "Fighter Squadrons of the RAF and their aircraft", 1993, by John Rawlings, page 274 and 275, Crecy Books, ISBN 0 947554 24 6. My late father served with this squadron. Always remembered.

    Post-war ANG P-47D / F-47D Thunderbolt. I've only seen this cowl marking on the F-47Ds in the 47th FIS in the 518th ADG @ Niagra Falls Municipal Airport. With the red stripes in the national insignia, this dates the photo as September 1947 or later, but since the buzz numbers would read "FE-347" vice "PE-347" when the P-47 became the F-47 in 1948, it's probably in late '47 or early '48.

    Info from Joe Baughrers website. 44-14858 P-47D OS-Y (357th FS, 355th FG, 8th AF) crashed from unknown cause Gawdy Hall, England Jun 21, 1945. MACR 15985. Pilot killed, aircraft destroyed.
