    This particular aircraft is a photo reconnaissance variant of the Lockheed P-38 Lightning, a Lockheed F-4 Lightning (USAAF Ser. no. 41-2217, c/n 222-5435). Note the covered gun ports and large camera window on the port side of the nose behind the number "17." As per the Joe Baugher site, its disposition is listed as, "salvaged in Australia Sep 26, 1944." See: www.joebaugher.com/usaf_serials/1941_1.html www.joebaugher.com/usaf_fighters/p38_9.html
