  This is an interesting two wheeled cart that would have been more manoeuvrable than the four wheeled type but needed to be finely balanced to avoid placing undue stress on the bullocks nearest the cart, known as polers, because they were attached to the projecting pole. Too much weight would break their necks by pressing down on the yoke, too little would lift them off the ground and strangle them.

  Interesting comments (esp JC Merriman), thankyou. This is one of a pair of well-known Monaro photos of the same scene (Kerry was from Bombala). Looking downstream to the NW, it shows a load of wool from Parker's property in the (then) Jingera district crossing the Toll-Bar creek near Rosebrook homestead (just out of shot on the right), about 3km above the Cooma Creek and Umeralla river junction at Chakola. The load's destination was Cooma, about 10km left of the shot. I am a distant Parker descendant.
