1,55pm Carol - you missed the clocks in this one, have you still got sand in your ears from your holliers? Just looking at the oil lamp as a standby, you couldn't trust the electricity in those days, the ESB were forever going on strike!

I think this is Mrs James Rolph - Mayor of San Francisco (1912-1931) and Governor of California (1931-34) capitolmuseum.ca.gov/firstladies.aspx?content2=1712

Yes, that must be Annie Marshall Reid Rolph, the mayor's wife, probably voting for the first time. In a referendum, California's voters approved women's suffrage in 1911. This photo probably dates from 1912. The San Francisco public library has this photo of a considerably older Annie Rolph with her husband "Sunny Jim", at the polls once again, in 1930 when he was running for Governor.

Thanks. The cylinder does look like it might be the ballot box. It's numbered, and there's a key hanging from the end of it.
