A Vicksburg map from 1890 indicates there were two cotton compresses operating in Vicksburg, the upper one in the city block bounded by Mulberry, Depot, Pearl, and South Madison Street which was close to a Vicksburg and Meridian rail road terminal were the Mississippi Hardware is located today. A picture post card in the Mississippi Archives Cooper Postcard collection, indicates this set of buildings was the lower compress and that there were additional buildings, including one for sampling cotton. East Carroll Parish, Louisiana. A little south/down river of Transylvania, Louisiana. Still not much of a town, one of the poorests parts of the state.

Most likely this hails from post mid April 1912 when over a thousand square miles of active plantation land went under six plus feet of water.
