The Wikipedia article on Inis Cealtra mentions the following about this doorway, which is part of St Caimin's church: "In the 12th century a Romanesque doorway was created in the western wall. In 1879 it was reconstructed as an arch of three orders. In 1978 that doorway was taken down. In 1981 it was rebuilt in an arch of four rather than three orders. Inside the church there are crosses, monuments, gravestones and a sundial."

Clare Library has a very early Tripadvisor review dating from 1681: Ennish Caltra Twelve Miles from Rallahine, neer Killaloo, worthy the sight of the curious, is an Island called Ennish Caltra. This is two small miles about, in the Shannon River, in which are seen the remaines of seven Churches called the 7 Churches of Asia. Here, once a yeer, the superstitious Irish go to do penance and are enjoined to walk round barefooted 7 times, and they who fear hurting their feet, hire others to do it; here is a great concourse of both sexes. This Island, by some, is called Insula Sanctorum, a name which hath bin applicable to All Ireland. (Note the original has been digitised and is available at Library Towers. Unfortunately this entry was not illustrated as some of the others were.)
