    Interesting, the soldiers don't look too bothered and if they are searching they are not expecting any surprises! The rifles are Lee-Enfield Mark I's I think and interestingly they are not fitted with rifle slings which you would expect if they were marching about and crawling around under trains etc. I wonder what regiment they are from and where it was taken????

    Looking closer to try and establish what was on the shoulder of the man nearest the camera doing the best piece of acting I see he has his gloves under his epaulette and it conveniently turns the badge outwards. I am not sure what is on that badge but some of the more computer savvy Flickroonies might be able to decipher it???? The gloves would indicate that it was not taken at the height of the summer and yet not wearing greatcoats would tell you that it was not winter either!

    That's the Church of Ireland Church in Tralee - dedicated to St John the Evangelist. It's located on Ashe Street.

    There's a pub around the corner from this church that sells electric blue cocktails for EUR8 a pitcher, as a result of which I can remember very little about Tralee (or what the cocktail is called), even though I got a detailed tour of the place from a local, including highlights such as the courthouse, where his mother got done for not paying her TV license as part of some sort of gaeilgeoir dispute, and a house that used to be a shop where his mother once bought a pair of shoes.

    The NIAH lists the red-brick corner building noted above (37 Ashe Street) as 1896, so that's an earliest date. It could be a little later, as the OS 25" surveyed in 1898 does not show this building (with the corner cut at an angle for a doorway).
