A perfunctory Google search turns up few clues as to the identity of "Mrs. A. Pederneiras." Nor is she mentioned in the cursory New York Times stories that reported stages of Theodore Roosevelt's South American excursion. Mrs. Roosevelt (Edith Carow Roosevelt) went with TR to Argentina, Brazil and Chile, but did not accompany the former President on his expedition to the interior of the continent, through the insect-infested rain forest and down the River of Doubt. No, that would be Mrs. Theodore Roosevelt, Junior -- wife of the former President's son. She was the former Eleanor Butler Alexander. They were wed on June 20, 1910. This photo was taken on June 17, 1913. [Edith Kermit Carow Roosevelt would have been 52 in 1913.]
