C.G. Dawes (LOC)

  • Richard Norton said:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_G._Dawes Charles Gates Dawes (August 27, 1865 – April 23, 1951) was an American banker and politician who was the 30th Vice President of the United States. For his work on the Dawes Plan for World War I reparations he was a co-recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize. He served in the First World War, was U.S. Comptroller of the Currency, the first director of the Bureau of the Budget, and, in later life, the U.S. Ambassador to the United Kingdom.
  • Wystan said:
Dawes was Calvin Coolidge's Vice President, but it was not a happy marriage: they despised each other.
  • Art Siegel said:
Plus, he wrote either the lyrics or music to the popular music classic "It's All In The Game"
  • Wystan said:
Dawes composed the tune, which for years was known as the "Dawes Melody" or "Melody in A Major." In 1951, at the request of Warner Brothers records, Tommy Edwards wrote lyrics for the tune, altering it somewhat and giving it a name. (Coincidentally, Dawes died in that year, never getting to hear the Edwards version.) Soon after, "It's All in The Game" became a No. 1 hit. www.songfacts.com/detail.php?id=2145
