At the top of page 283, Maxfield is described as Assistant Lighter-than-Air Division - Naval Aviator.

Horace Tyler Dyer died in 1968, aged 84. From his obituary:
"Mr. Dyer was a 1907 graduate of the Naval Academy and had served through 1923 with Bureau of Engineering Aeronautics. He also was on extensive sea duty and was naval attache with the American Embassy after World War I in London."
