Opera singers Leontyne Price and Robert Merrill sang amidst the Metropolitan Opera House's construction. Merrill's baritone was often heard at Yankee and Giants Stadiums, singing the National Anthem. Price once performed at the Library of Congress Coolidge Auditorium (1953). The blue lines and arrows are on the original item and indicate where the newspaper planned to crop the portrait for publication.

Yes: The name of the director of the Metropolitan Opera ist Heinrich Conried, not "Conreid" as written in the title and the description of the foto. As Conried died on 27 Apr 1909, the foto can be dated correctly with 1909. Source: de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heinrich_Conried

the funeral does look like it's in a theater with a set as the backdrop. but these pictures are supposed to start in 1910. Yet his funeral was at the Metropolitan Opera House on May 13, 1909. An account of the funeral: query.nytimes.com/gst/abstract.html?res=9806E5DE1E31E733A...
