It is amazing how history has been captured by the photographer. It is the essence of Mark Twain, but happening in 1940. Very intense in bringing the past to life.

What do you suppose the cardboard is for? Someone seems to have collected it.

I'm sure some of the cardboard was used for re-lining the insoles of the shoes. New shoes were hard to come by. Back then, everything was recycled.
