Could be Kathleen Mary Drew (1901-1957), listed in Ogilvie and Harvey, The Biographical Dictionary of Women in Science as "British botanist....Drew was a distinguished worker in the field of red algae. She spent most of her academic life in the department of cryptogamic botany at the University of Manchester....she spent two years in the United States, working at the University of California. During this time, she produced systematic studies and her first substantial monograph....She was one of the founders of the British Phycological Society and was its first president."

yes this is interesting... shimmering silver quality is quite lovely. the crispness and lighting seem so contemporary vs nearly 70 years ago.

I like this picture... soemthing about the green wall contrasted by the door and the portrait orientation seems to work better than a landscape.

From a Google-cached page listing of "Scientists Who Have Contributed to Our Knowledge of Freshwater Crab Biology," retrieved Jan. 20, 2009 - she is listed under "African Freshwater Crab Carcinologists" Isabella Gordon 18 May 1901 – 11 May 1988 British carcinologist. Obtained her Ph.D. degree (1926) from the University of London, awarded D.Sc. (1928) by the University of Aberdeen, and received the Order of the British Empire in 1961. In her early years she studied echinoderms, and made working visits to the U.S.(Hopkins Marine Station, California; Woods Hole, Massachusetts; U.S. National Museum, Washington D.C.). Assistant Keeper of Crustacea at the British Museum (Natural History) (Now The Natural History Museum, London) until her retiremen in 1966. The original page, apparently compiled by Dr. Neil Cumberlidge at Northern Michigan University, is no longer there. faculty.nmu.edu/ncumberl/Neil/MainFWC-website/FWCCarcinol... There's a piece on her (probably an obit) in the Nov. 1988 issue of the Journal of Crustacean Biology if someone has access to JSTOR. (I don't on my home computer) And in Crustaceana, Vol. 56, No. 1 (1989)
