  More seriously, that "wonky old lens" might be a clue to the photographer (in 1881 1899). See this photo of Clyde Street (John Degotardi Jnr, in 1900) -

  Could this be the Iron Church being re-erected in Lidcombe Hospital which apparently happened in 1879? www.gordonmoyes.com/2007/10/25/iron-churches/

  State Library of New South Wales I think you are right, it is the re-erection at Lidcombe Hospital as a chapel. The builders / demolishers would not have left that junk all over Macquarie Street, and the huts do not match the other photos.
