Ha. Let's debunk the date. The shadows on this one are actually pretty good so I will hie me to the solar calculator to start with (though frankly, 45 degrees above the horizontal looks pretty much like July 6th to me).

Apparently the chancel of St. Macartin's was enlarged in 1889. I can't tell from the photos if that's happened already in the older one though.

National Library of Ireland on The Commons I went to school with his son, David. So I did not really know him that well, just as a really friendly Dad of my friend. I remember seeing some of his photos years ago and would be keen to see more. As far as I recall he was a great man for the slides and had hundreds, if not thousands.
