What's interesting is the quality and resolution of the glass plate in comparison to the presumably 35mm photo from 1990.

[http://www.flickr.com/photos/eyelightfilms] Would imagine it was 35mm alright.

A good big one beats a good little one every time. Even medium format beats 35mm hands down so you may guess what resolution a 19 x 13cm glass negative has.

What is really interesting as regards the buildings is how many of the large two storey ones are missing from the 1990 shot. Population density had obviously dropped considerably. The number of farms/cottages and more remote buildings is no greater. The Abbey in the foreground was an Augustinian Priory. A neighbour of mine was from Ballinskelligs and her father was a noted Gaelgoir and author who wrote about the area. He published a book about Ballinskelligs just before he died a couple of years back.

It isn't often you get a photo taken 100 years layer that is so close to the original. Excellent shot.

I have a similar one taken this year. I was involved in waterproofing the gutters when it was being repaired after a big bomb.
