Great project. Awareness of this may chnge behavior. My family switched over to reusable things and recycling as much as possible as a way of life. I did not grow up this way, but thankfully I got educated.
For anybody looking to reduce their impact on the environment, especially with putting things in our landfills that don't break down quickly, make sure you patronize businesses that make sustainable options more convenient.

Hi, I'm an admin for a group called Croton-on-Hudson, New York, and we'd love to have this added to the group! When we were kids, we used to have to walk past this dump on the way to the riverfront Croton Pointe Park. It stunk both figuratively and literally!

Hi Libraryrivergirl, Sure, you're welcome to add the National Archives' photos to your group. I bet just looking at these pictures brings back olfactory memories of that walk in the middle of summer! Kristen (U.S. National Archives)

Thanks for adding the photos. Yes, it was especially awful in the summer. And we would wrap a scarf around our faces to block out the smell as we went past.
