This event took place on Flag Day in 1918, June 14th. The Giants, who had won the National League pennant the year before, ran it up the Polo Grounds flagpole before a game with the Chicago Cubs. From a colorful account of the game: "M'GRAW'S BATSMAN FALL UPON VAUGHAN AND COVER BRUINS WITH WHITEWASH; HAUGHTY CUBS ARE HUMBLED BY GIANTS McGraw's Men Celebrate Flag Day by Taking Final Game of the Series, 7 to 0. The Tanglefoot ad (for flypaper) was a clever baseball ad campaign, customized for different teams and ballparks.
