April 12, 1912, Friday Page 8, 1254 words With military honors so elaborate as to halt downtown traffic and office work for some time during the busy forenoon yesterday, the coffin containing the remains of Major Gen. Philip Kearny was removed from Trinity Church, and, after being carried on a flag-draped caisson though lower Broadway was placed in the rotunda of City Hall to remain there in state overnight. query.nytimes.com/gst/abstract.html?res=9402E7DF153CE633A... He was killed in the Civil War. So what is happening here? (from bio of Kearny on line): "His remains, forwarded under a flag of truce by Robert E. Lee, were first buried in Trinity Churchyard in New York City, but on April 12, 1912 were moved to Arlington National Cemetery. His grave is marked by one of only two equestrian statues in the cemetery and was a gift of the people of New Jersey in 1914."
