  I'm no expert but I think these might actually be black-striped wallabies (note the smallish size, black strip along the spine and pretty white cheek and hip stripes). According to the NSW Department of Environment and Conservation they are now an endangered species: www.threatenedspecies.environment.nsw.gov.au/tsprofile/pr... Poor little things, they are by far the sweetest member of the kangaroo family I've ever seen :)

  The player on the left has been whited out so that this part of the photograph could be reproduced in the text of a magazine as an illustration. Rather than reproduce a regular four sided part of the photograph with background included, it was fashionable to reproduce only the figure on the white page in some newspapers and magazines. RW
