Mining is the town's raison d'etre and though it dominates the skyline and the local economy. Mount Isa is located 1,823 km north-west of Brisbane via Toowoomba and Longreach.     Community Store, Mineside. This was a company owned store for Mount Isa Mines Employees only and was on a pay deduction system. It contained a general store, fruit and vegetable store, chemist and Post Office agency. At this time the main Mount Isa Post Office was located in West Street about opposite the Mount Isa City Library today.

    Townside. Street facing the Bank of NSW is Marian Street, changed to Rodeo Drive in early 2000's, the cross street is the main CBD street, Miles Street. The 3rd building down Miles Street is Comet Studios which is responsible for many excellent photographs of Mount Isa's early history in many collections and in varying degrees of condition.
