Hi, I'm an admin for a group called historic porch gingerbread & scrollwork, and we'd love to have your photo added to the group.

What a fantastic place! I wonder how long it stood there, and who owned it. The gingerbread trim with the laundry hanging about, and the boarded up window upstairs, is an interesting combination visually and says much about their lives.

    Beautiful detail in this photo.

According to the Irish Times of March 8th 1960 (a Tuesday), the Senator Possehl was expected to arrive on Friday from Newport News carrying coal. (There is also a reference to Heitons?)

shipspotting.com/gallery/photo.php?lid=2270926 From the info on this site it would be fairly new (4years old)when this photo was taken. Paint work does look fresh and devoid of heavy rust stains.

There's a double-headed eagle on the bow, which is most likely the coat of arms of Lübeck. Emil Possehl (the person) was an important businessman and Senator in the Lübecker Senate. (German wiki).

    Haystacks with fences? Dairy farm?
  • artpease said:
My question exactly about those haystacks. Probably for beef cattle. Not sure why the fences around the stacks, as all the fields themselves seem to be fenced.
  • artpease said:
Oops! I see that there are several haystacks within one fenced field.
  • pgcosmin said:
The fences were protecting the hay while the cattle grazed there. The hay was for winter time.
