The corner shop at left was said to be "nearing completion" in 1909 in the Westmeath Independent, according to the NIAH

As can be seen at the OS map link, this is Church Street further along, but the near end is Custume Place, formerly Victoria Place. Several of the shop owners can be found in the 1911 census: e.g Campbell, Farrelly, Fleming's Medical Hall is on Church St. proper.

Charles Fair, Solicitor, has a first floor office at left.

Are those ploughs on display on the kerbside outside what appears to be the hardware shop?

John Spooner Definitely shiny new single furrow ploughs just waiting for a buyer. I would say it's safe to assume they would be horse drawn.

I think O'Brien's is now the Roost Bar in streetview. Check the chimney pots on the left.

A couple of the horses at the back are a bit camera shy too. I love how photos of the public in this period attract such attention from the people.

Conor1970 I've noticed a weird phenomenon that early tram and omnibus passengers seemed camera shy also. It turns up in a lot of our photos, though of course not all of them come to mind now that I need to remember them to show you, but along the lines of this one!

HI T2 this registration is out of the normal format for Ireland? Tipperary South Riding CC: HI then GI HI 1 to HI 9999 (Dec 1903 - Sep 1954).

DannyM8 All publicity is good publicity! Would imagine that was Desktop 123 who did a lot of work and contributed a ton of information on the O'Gorman family and their operation? I'd be delighted that any photos we post here create "renewed interest" in all sorts of places, people, dogs...
