Crikey. I had never thought about this site until I saw the photograph! I still think the present building is an eyesore....

The railways when we still had a lot of it left in the city.. Some things of note in this one are Dunston Power Station which is upstream of the Dunston Staithes. Stella power station cooling towers can be seen top of image (4 of them). We can also see the Metro bridge being constructed across the river. The old Redheugh Bridge is standing too - it would soon be replaced by the concrete one..
