The name corrected (Mi)lford written on its bow.

The ship's name ends in "-lford" which may make it the PS Milford which was scrapped in 1901.

She was a Great Western Railway ship. One of three paddle steamers ordered from William Simons & Co. of Renfrew in 1873. She was badly damaged in a storm and broken up in 1901. PS Waterford and PS Limerick were sister ships. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Western_Railway_ships

Does anyone know the location? 4-2-2 Rover Class : Inkermann, built 1878, withdrawn 1892, name commemorates the Battle of Inkerman (1854, Crimean War); name reused from earlier Iron Duke class (also 4-2-2). This is a very well-known photograph taken by Rev. A.H.Malan shortly before abolition of the broad gauge. It has been reproduced in many books. Location is Weston Junction on the Bristol to Taunton line. The junction to Weston Super Mare can be seen in the background. The view is looking towards Bristol. The train is passing under Moor Lane Bridge. Particularly interesting in this photograph is the engine driver or fireman standing with his right arm outstretched as acknowledgement to the signalman's (hopefully green!) flag.

More likely to be Worlledge on the box? I couldn't find any Horlledges on Google, only Worlledges- but not a J.M., unfortunately!

Think The Ship is The Great Southern 01 Almost Positive

There's a Major J.P.G. Worlledge here en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MI8 who might fit the bill?

Mike Brilliant if it is Worlledge, but just looked again at ginormous scan of this glass plate and it looks as if it starts with a H (unprompted colleague said the same...).

National Library of Ireland on The Commons If it's an H, then the two uprights ARE parallel to the slope of the rest of the letters in his name- but I think I can make out the faint trace of the first line of a W!? Any mention of Horlledge I have found on Google, is in connection with a mis-spelling or reading of Worlledge.
