This site with vintage photos of belly dance performers has the same image identified as Fritzi Schaffer probably performing for vaudeville as Salome.

Similar picture at bilder.beshkan.de/displayimage.php?album=3&pos=14 also suggests performing as Salome. The picture seems to have more writing on, but the resolution is not high enough to read.

I think the image to which we've each linked (and from which this LOC one appears to be cropped) was a photo postcard with her name and role in the upper right and the publisher's info in the bottom right.

J. D. Archbold was President of the Standard Oil Company. In Nov. 1915, anarchists tried to blown up with four pounds (!) of dynamite underneath his car: query.nytimes.com/gst/abstract.html?res=9F06E6DD1E38E633A... As Vixen is bedecked from stem to stern with flags, this appears to be the launching of the steam yacht on Thursday April 10, 1913. The hull was made of steel, and although steam powered, it was rigged as a schooner. Length = 169 feet Beam = 22 feet Draft = 7.5 feet Although not fully commissioned, the launching was held at the yard of Charles L. Seabury & Co., Morris Heights into the Harlem River; and the yacht was enrolled in the New York Yacht Club. Sponsor was Mr. Archbold's daughter, Mrs. M. M. Van Buren. Although the third vessel of the same name owned by Mr. Archbold, the transom appears to bear the name "Vixen" and NOT "Vixen III" [ ref. query.nytimes.com/gst/abstract.html?res=9B01EFDF1730E233A... ]
