  There never existed a Gotha G.X, the highest allotted code by the idFlieg was the Gotha G.IX which was actually built after the war was ended. The purpose to build a batch of these Gotha G.IX machines was to get the work force at work and not close the factory all ay once getting the thousands of people out of work and income. What is the machine on the picture ? Given the short span of the wings (two-bay) this rule out the G.VIII and G.IX types which had longer wings with three bays. The G.VII (or G.L.VII) had an even shorter wing consisted of a single bay. To conclude this will be one of the development prototypes of Gotha for a light fast bomber. As these prototypes were never bought by the German Army they never received an official G identification. Of course the Gotha factory had in its time some form of factory identification but I have never seen it. I rest my case, the 'best' identification would be a Gotha prototype for a twin-engined biplane fast light bomber'.
