Caudron G.III C.6041 poss used by the US for training Stig

This is not a Gotha G.III. It is the Zeppelin-Staaken R.XIV, one of the Riesenflugzeuge (Giant aircraft) built by Zeppelin's Staaken facility outside of Berlin or by one of the license-builders (Aviatik, etc.) It is shown after being stripped by Allied souvenir hunters after the Armistice allowed them onto abandoned airfields in former German territory. This aircraft was larger than a B-17 and had 5 260+ horsepower engines.

The exact identity of this machine is given on the fuselage side. It is a Friedrichshafen G.IV 1074/18. This machine was one of a batch of 30 license built by Daimler, hence the remark Daim. The whole designation is then Fdh G IV Daim 1074/18. These machines - at least this one - was delivered after the war and the picture gives it in an unfinished state. The G.IV (factory designation FF 61) was a strengthened G.III and was able to carry 10 bombs of 100 kg each or the ultimate one bomb of 1000 kg ! The picture also gives some idea of the sparsity of tires at the end of the war in Germany as there are no tires visible.
