Celebrated auto racers of the early 20th century. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Georges_Boillot en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1914_French_Grand_Prix This might be a photo in connection with the 1914 Grand Prix, held on the eve of WWI, in which they both raced. It was Boillot's last race. More likely, related to their enlistment. Boillot enlisted, became an aviator, and was killed in action in 1916.

So awesome! I love these Brass Era behemoths. These were wild, exciting, dangerous & scary times... the progress that occurred these years on the Horseless Carriage was incredible.

Looks like it was taken in connection with their enlistment.

In the news in June, 1914, because he had just set a new speed record at the Indianapolis 500 motor speedway, although tire problems kept him from winning the annual Memorial Day race.

Thanks to you both. It certainly makes sense that Boillot's picture would have been in the newspaper somewhere between 1912 and 1914, when he raced last. We'll see if someone turns up a link to a specific article. Is that the Peugeot L76 that he's seated in?

Ryan (LOC P&P) That's a Peugeot EX3 that Boillot is sitting in. While the EX3 does resemble it's L76 predecessor, it can be distinguished by the shorter "gills" along the side of the hood. Boillot began racing the EX3 in 1913. The EX3 was also known as the "L56," which related to the displacement of the EX3's 4-cylinder engine.
