    there is a cat and it could be a dog in the distance. memories as a child of this style of military patrolling (NI) when half of the troops would split walking backwards.

    Foxglove Carol Maddock One of my memories of cycling through Newry (on my way from Rosslare to Larne) some time in the early 1990s was of 4 soldiers escorting a policemen on his beat. There were 2 on each side of the road, ahead and behind the policeman, looking around them and moving from doorway to doorway. What struck me most was that the locals (including the policeman) were going about their business as if the soldiers weren't there. I suppose that for them it was just part of everyday life.
